Woodworking at Studio Andreas
Our Approach
No material is more versatile, beautiful, or useful to work with than wood. Our woodworking studio spans nearly 2,000 square feet and is equipped with tools for woodworkers of all levels. Students can learn the basics of hand tools, try their hand at bowl turning, or build custom furniture projects.
Woodworking Class Offerings

Monday Youth Afternoon Class
November 9th-December 164th (No class on Nov 30th) ,5:00-7:00, $300
This 5-week course is designed for youth who want to explore woodworking. In a safe and supportive studio setting, students will learn the fundamentals of hand tools such as saws, chisels, gouges, scrapers, and hand planes. They’ll begin with two starter projects—a hand-carved wooden spoon and a small keepsake box—before moving on to more advanced creations. Ages 10 and up.
Monday Evening Adult Class
November 3rd-December 15th, 7:00PM-10:00PM, $550
This 7-week course introduces the fundamentals of woodworking, with a focus on safe and proper use of tools such as saws, chisels, gouges, scrapers, and hand planes. Students typically begin with two foundational projects: carving a wooden spoon and building a small keepsake box. As students become more comfortable with hand tools and studio equipment, they are encouraged to take on more complex projects.

7-Week Woodworking Class
October 31st-December 19th (No class on November 28th), $550
Saturday Afternoon from 12:30-3:30PM
This 7-week course introduces the fundamentals of woodworking, with a focus on safe and proper use of tools such as saws, chisels, gouges, scrapers, and hand planes. Students typically begin with two foundational projects: carving a wooden spoon and building a small keepsake box. As students become more comfortable with hand tools and studio equipment, they are encouraged to take on more complex projects.
5-Week Intro to Fundamentals of Carpentry Class
Saturdays 9:30AM-12:30PM | October 31st-December 5th (No class on November 28th) | $400
This 5-week class is the ultimate crash course on the fundamentals of carpentry.; focusing on the basic skills needed to help renovate and restore your own home! Students will learn how to choose the right tools and materials ranging from lumber to fasteners to drills, how to use them and why. Lastly, students will take away the skills of joining wood together using fasteners, glue, and drills. All students will make their own charcuterie board!

1. Hand Work
Students who have never taken a Studio Andreas woodworking class before will always start their first project of hand-carving a wooden spoon! Using a combination of hand chisels/files, rasps, Japanese hand saws, and spoke shaves, students will learn the basics of hand-carving and understand the fundamentals of wood working.

2. Intro to Carpentry
After completing your wooden spoon, students will learn carpentry, the art of cutting and joining wood. Students will be introduced to working with power tools and equipment, focusing on safety and shop protocol. Students can make

3: Intro to Furniture Buildiing
In this phase, students will be able to make their first furniture piece such as a stool! Students will be taught and introduced to the following processes: milling, joinery, spindle work, and how to assemble and finish their piece.

4: Student Led
After completing the introductory projects, students are encouraged to take on more advanced projects of their choice! It is always helpful to bring in a sketch or an image of what you would like to make so our instructors can best help you!

Private Lessons
It all begins with an idea. Get one on one guidance from one of our woodworking instructors in our private lessons. Open to all skill levels and up to 5 participants in each session.

Mark Andreas
FOUNDER & HEAD INSTRUCTOR Studio Andreas was founded in 2022 by artist and educator Mark Andreas. What began as his personal art studio soon grew into a woodworking classroom where students could explore wood as a medium of art. Mark’s developed his woodworking skills through his career as a boat-builder, furniture designer, and house builder. Additionally, Mark has had an extensive career as a sculptor exhibiting both nationally and internationally. Invested in the arts, Mark also helped co-found an art collective in Finland and has traveled around the world attending artist residencies. Mark has lived in Stamford for over 20 years where he resides with his wife Kate, his daughter, Amelia, and his dog, Mika.

Herb Thomas
ASSISTANT TEACHER
Herbert Thomas, a woodworking instructor from Bridgeport, CT. Thomas has spent time refining his craft through hands-on experience. His practice is rooted in curiosity and persistence. Thomas is committed to the life long journey learning through every mistake, discovering himself through the vast material; and building community around the medium. -
Mika Andreas
SHOP DOG & STUDIO ANDREAS MASCOT
When she is not napping in the sun or guarding her younger sister, Amelia; Mika spends most of her days at Studio Andreas. She is very friendly and loves to wander into the studios to say hi to all of our students!

Shop Policies
While Studio Andreas teaches tool safety, woodworking and weaving are inherently dangerous. Craft tools and practices can cause physical injuries or damage to students and those around them. Studio Andreas is not liable for any injuries sustained by students inside the shop and requires that all students work at their own risk. By signing up for our classes, you acknowledge that you are aware of this liability.
WORKSHOP STANDARDS:
New students are required to complete introductory projects that will cover safety and the proper use of rudimentary craft tools.If necessary, Studio Andreas has the right to dismiss a student from the studio and classes. If a student is dismissed they will receive a refund for remaining classes.
Students are responsible for finishing their work and leaving enough time to clean up their work area by the end of class. Students may not linger in the studio after their class is finished.
Students arriving late to class can’t stay into the next class to make up for missed time. Students are only permitted to be in the studio during their assigned class time.
When instructors are teaching a private lesson or workshop, no other students are permitted in the studio at that time.
Students may attend a different class for a make-up session only after discussing and receiving approval from their instructor.
Photography or footage may be taken during classes, workshops, or private lessons. They may be used by Studio Andreas for marketing on our website or social media. If this is something you do not feel comfortable with please let your Instructor know.TOOL USAGE:
Proper usage of our tools is strictly enforced. The ability for students to work independently with larger and more powerful equipment will come through certification.
Studio Andreas reserves the right to discontinue a student’s access to work with any given tool for safety reasons or improper usage. Students are responsible for the full financial cost of damage or breakage to any tool while in their use.
MATERIAL USAGE:
Space is limited at Studio Andreas. Students may store material for one project at a time only if they are enrolled in that given semester’s class or classes. -
We understand life happens and are willing to accommodate. If you are going to miss a class, please let the instructors know ahead of time. Students are allowed to make up classes in any other woodworking class offering in that same week. Rollovers into the next semester are not permitted. Refunds are not possible for absences.

Yes! All of our woodworking classes are designed for all experience levels. We will offer specific introductory courses from time to time which caters towards woodworking beginners.

A $50 fee is incorporated into every transaction and is nonrefundable. If you need to withdraw from a class for any reason, please reach out to your instructor as soon as possible. Students who withdraw 72 hours before the first day of the semester will be refunded the class cost minus the fee. Changes made afterward will only be refunded as future class credit.
